Northport Library

The purpose of this project was for the students to design a library in Northport located on the water off Main Street. My design concepts were to have unobstructed views to the water and from Main Street. In addition, adding an atrium to bring in natural light on both levels. Adding floor to ceiling windows in between to collection stacks to allow natural light in the aisles. The placement of my building on the site is closest to the water and the park so that you are closest to the views.

The building to the right is the Billie Jean King Main Library located in Long Beach, California. The design concept for this library is what inspired me for my design of the Northport Library. This library was designed by SOM; Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. Their heirarchy was focused on the two level atrium in the center. Another design concept was that they wanted floor to ceiling windows to have unobstructed views of Lincoln Park.
